The Director of the Penang Meteorological Department has given a briefing to the Chief Minister and members of the press about the tsunami alert at the Jabatan Kaji Cuaca in Bayan Lepas. Although the tsunami alert has been called off, EK Loh explained to the press the three levels of tsunami alerts. He gave a short explanation on themechanism use in tsunami observation. The tsunami alert was issued at 6.45 am for coastal areas of Perlis, Penang and Kedah following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake in North Sumatra on Wednesday. It was called off at 8.20 am.
