Food of Deepavali

October 24th, 2008 by MM2H

food of deepavali

3 days to go to enjoy the delicious food of Deepavali.

Not being that religious, and not being in for Indian traditional Deepavali music and dance, for me this coming Deepavali Monday - October 27th - means my yearly indulging in Indian food. Don’t ask what food do Indians eat on Deepavali : it’s just too many names to remember and it doesn’t mean anything when you can’t taste it.

My friend’s mother Deepavali rituals include spending all day making murukku of which I prefer the ones formed into a spiral, see above picture.

Go to the supermarket and by all the savory snacks you can find: just nothing beats her murukku. I mean, where do you find fresh curry leaves inside a savory snack? That’s right, she has it and I bet other Indians will have it to. Just that I don’t happen to know too many.

Luckily I managed this year to visit New Delhi, so I brought some cloth to give to her to make Deepavali clothes. Just her murukku will pay back for all the money spend traveling :-)

If you never made any Indian friends, then you are loosing out big time now! But it’s never too late to go out and make new friends! In Malaysia that’s a bit hard these days, as most of the Indians there are detained under the ISA and 30.000 don’t even hold a passport :-(

Happy enjoying the food of Deepavali!

How to play with your worldwide friends at home

October 24th, 2008 by MM2H

Having traveled most part of my life, I have met lots of friends who love to play a good game of poker. Wouldn’t it be great one day to put all my friends around 1 table and have a wonderful evening all together?

Well, that’s all possible now thanks to the Internet. I just signed up at PartyPoker, downloaded their software and I was playing with people all over the world in no time.

Then I pressed PartyPoker’s "Tell a Friend" and invited all my friends. Looking forward to our "tournament of the century". Also looking forward for each signup, as PartyPoker will give me $100 for each new member!

PartyPoker is currently promoting their "tournament of the century" called also having a great promotion: King of the Table, a $2 million tournament.

If you want to play for real money, use bonus code PPP500 and get a 100% bonus up to $500. But you can also play for virtual money.

To find out how ‘good’ I am, I took PartyPoker’s free course to play poker in their free online poker tournaments. Thank God I did that, as I understand now why my friends play better than I do…

You can save money by playing online, since you won’t have to pay for travel tickets, drinks nor hotels!

Karpal Singh not allowed to sing in parliament

October 23rd, 2008 by MM2H

Seriously…

You don’t need serious argumentation to speak in Parliament anymore?

Today in Parliament one was debating about the government spending more than 100.000 Ringgit on a dinner with lawyers, trying to justify why.

According to the ruling party, “these kind of dinners are an effort to strengthen the relationship between the government and the lawyers. Only blind people would say that it is bribery…”

Now what has this got to do with blind people, I would like to ask the ruling party?

karpalKarpal Singh also saw that this kind of argumentation can’t be serious. Really, there are no facts stated and it’s as useless as saying that only a deaf person wouldn’t hear the benefits the ruling party was talking about…

Anyway, Karpal Singh is not a member of the ruling party, so he got suspended for 2 days.

However the person talking about blind people can still speak his mind no matter what…

It’s really fun to see how the Malaysian parliament conduct their things, it’s sad that in a period of enormous economical and political instability, one doesn’t talk about more serious issues with more serious arguments.
