Malaysia’s UMNO party has been denying rigorously that they were injecting money in order to buy votes. All this changed this week.
UMNO found one of their members – Mohd Ali Rustman – vying the job of new Deputy Prime Minister guilty of money politics. He was punished by no more being able to be a candidate for DPM.
The post of DPM in Malaysia is utterly important, as during the Mahathir time they were handpicked and would become the next prime minister.
In other words: once you make it to the DPM post, it’s as if you are already the next PM of Malaysia.
What looks new is that now there are elections to become the next DPM. But it seems that Mohd Ali was not Najib’s choice of preference. Najib is the actual DPM and God willing will be the next PM of Malaysia at the end of the month.
To get rid of Mohd Ali, UMNO now openly confirms that money politics exists and rapidly use it to get rid of Mohd Ali…
What if a family member of PM gets accused of a similar offence?
Khairy Jamaluddin, who is standing for Umno Youth chief also was accused for money politics, but got away with a warning. Khairy Jamaluddin is the son in law of the actual PM.
Elections in Malaysia are far different than in Europe where everybody can participate with or without the liking of others.
