How can Malaysia that makes a living out tourism charge double price for foreigners? Is this Malaysia’s way to boost tourism only for Malaysian citizens?.
Menara Taming Sari – Malacca tower
I visited Malacca Malaysia last weekend and wanted to have a bird’s eye’s view over the historical town of Malacca. We opted to visit the Menara Taming Sari: a 110m tower. An air-conditioned cabin takes you high above the ground while rotating (in a very slow motion), so you can enjoy the 360 degree views on Malacca.
So far so good, until I needed to pay for tickets: my Malaysian friends were charged 10RM and I was charged 20RM.
I mean: what is this all about? This reminds me on Malaysian taxi drivers that lure foreign tourists to drive them around not using their taxi meter and charging premium prices.
Although the latter is not legal practice, now it’s legal in Malacca to charge a foreigner twice as much as a Malaysian.
I know bus tours do take you to overpriced places, but having to pay twice as much for a place I visit without any tourist guide is a real and utterly rip off.
